nanoremediation – Inorganic Nanoparticles Group http://www.inorganicnanoparticles.net Research group at ICN Mon, 13 Jan 2020 13:55:52 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=4.7.28 Inorganic nanoparticles and the environment: an invited article in the Spanish science dissemination magazine “Investigación y Ciencia” http://www.inorganicnanoparticles.net/nano-environment-iyc/ Sun, 24 Feb 2013 15:22:53 +0000 http://inorganic.wpengine.com/?p=1429 The traditional popular science magazine “Investigación y Ciencia” (which is the Spanish edition of the also traditional magazine “Scientific American”) invited Prof. Puntes to write an article on the benefits and risks of using inorganic nanoparticles in the environment, and it has been now recently published in its February 2013 issue.

The work was prepared jointly with a long-time collaborator on the topic, Prof. Antoni Sanchez from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, together with Dr. Cecilia López and invaluable input form Dr. Eudald Casals, who is an expert on the matter. It overviews the basic principles behind the application of nanostructures, and then goes into the environmental issues, such as nanoparticle ecotoxicity and the use of nanomaterials for environmental remediation. The aim of the article was to explain these matters to general non-expert audience, as part of our efforts to contribute to the dissemination of nanoscience and nanotechnology.
